Dana Dokmanovich: The Remarkable Life Of Franco Harris’s Wife (2026)

Dana Dokmanovich is best known for her long relationship with NFL legend Franco Harris and as the mother of their only son, Franco “Dok” Harris. Her connection with Harris began before his career made him a Pittsburgh Steelers icon. Dana later shared many years of family life with him while keeping much of her own story outside sports coverage.

She is often called Franco’s wife, although some accounts describe her as his longtime partner rather than a legal spouse. That difference is important when looking at her biography and family history.

Quick Bio: Dana Dokmanovich

Who Is Dana Dokmanovich?

Dana Dokmanovich was the longtime partner of Franco Harris, the Hall of Fame running back famous for the “Immaculate Reception.” Their relationship lasted for decades and remained an important part of Franco’s personal life until his death in 2022. Together, they had one son, Franco “Dok” Harris.

Dana occasionally attended public events with Franco, but she did not build a separate celebrity identity around his football fame. Much of what is publicly known about her comes from family references, older accounts, and events involving Franco and their son.

Dana Dokmanovich’s Age and Background

Dana’s exact date of birth has not been clearly established in the information available. Some online profiles place her birth in the early 1950s, but a specific year should be treated carefully. Reports also connect Dana with Serbian heritage and identify Peter and Bess Dokmanovich as her parents. Some accounts suggest that her family came to the United States from Serbia when she was young.

However, details about her birthplace and childhood are not equally well documented. Her Serbian family connection remains one of the more frequently reported parts of her background.

Dana Dokmanovich’s Education and Early Career

Dana has been associated with Penn State University, where Franco Harris also studied and played college football. After her education, she reportedly worked as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines. Some biographies additionally describe her as having modeling experience, although detailed information about that work is limited.

Her airline career is a useful part of her story because it shows that she had professional experience separate from Franco’s growing football fame. These early years came before much of the public attention that later surrounded the Harris family through Franco’s success in professional football.

Dana Dokmanovich and Franco Harris’s Relationship

Dana and Franco reportedly knew each other during their college years, giving their relationship roots that came before his NFL success. Franco entered professional football in 1972 when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the first round of the NFL Draft.

His career quickly grew, but his connection with Dana continued through those major changes. They remained together through his Steelers years and into his life after football. Their relationship therefore covered far more than Franco’s playing career, continuing as he became involved in business, charitable causes, and the Pittsburgh community after leaving the NFL.

Were Dana Dokmanovich and Franco Harris Married?

The exact marital status of Dana and Franco has been described differently across published accounts. Dana is often referred to as Franco Harris’s wife, including in coverage connected with his life and death. Other reports describe them as longtime partners and state that they never formally married.

Because these descriptions conflict, it is safer not to claim a legal marriage without clear documentation. What is established is that their relationship lasted for many years and that they built a family together. Franco also reportedly referred to Dana as his wife, showing the seriousness of their partnership.

Dana and Franco Harris’s Family Life

Family was an important part of Dana and Franco’s years together. They had one son, Franco Dokmanovich Harris, better known as Dok. As Franco moved from professional football into business and community work, the family remained closely connected with Pittsburgh. Dana also appeared with Franco at selected public occasions, including sports and social events.

Their family life was not regularly presented through interviews or television features, so many everyday details were never widely documented. What stands out most is the length of Dana and Franco’s relationship and the family they built around their son.

Who Is Their Son, Dok Harris?

Franco “Dok” Harris is the only son of Dana Dokmanovich and Franco Harris. Rather than following his father into professional football, Dok developed interests in education, law, business, and politics. He studied at Princeton University and later pursued graduate education connected with Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

His professional interests also brought him into the family’s business activities. In 2009, Dok entered Pittsburgh politics by running for mayor. His varied career helped him establish an identity that was clearly different from his father’s famous NFL path.

Dana Dokmanovich’s Career and Professional Life

Beyond her earlier airline work, Dana has not maintained a highly documented public career. She was sometimes present at events alongside Franco, but those appearances did not develop into a media or entertainment profession. Information about later business positions or other formal jobs is limited, so it would be misleading to assign her a detailed career history without stronger evidence.

This makes Dana different from Franco, whose football, business, and charitable activities were extensively covered. Her public record is instead shaped mainly by selected appearances and her longstanding place within the Harris family.

Franco Harris’s Death and Family Tribute

Franco Harris died on December 20, 2022, at age 72, shortly before the 50th anniversary of the “Immaculate Reception.” The Pittsburgh Steelers were preparing to retire his famous No. 32 jersey during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders. After his unexpected death, the planned celebration became an emotional memorial.

Dana and Dok joined Steelers president Art Rooney II during the halftime ceremony as the team officially honored Franco’s number. The moment connected his remarkable football history with the family who had known him beyond the stadium and gave Pittsburgh fans an opportunity to honor his memory.

Dana Dokmanovich’s Life After Franco Harris

After losing Franco, Dana remained connected with the wider story of his life through family and remembrance. Franco’s importance to Pittsburgh extends beyond his statistics because he maintained strong community ties long after retiring from football. Later recognition of his achievements has therefore included his character, charitable work, and relationship with the city as well as his NFL career.

Dana’s place in this chapter is mainly connected with preserving that family history alongside Dok. She has not turned the attention surrounding Franco’s legacy into a separate public career or personal media platform.

Dana Dokmanovich’s Net Worth

Dana Dokmanovich’s personal net worth has not been reliably confirmed. Various websites may attach financial estimates to her name, but there is not enough documented information about her assets, earnings, or investments to support an exact figure. Franco Harris earned money through professional football and later pursued business ventures, including Super Bakery.

Those financial activities, however, should not automatically be used to calculate Dana’s personal wealth. The details of Franco’s estate and the distribution of individual assets are also not established in the information available, making a precise net-worth claim speculative rather than factual.

Where Is Dana Dokmanovich Now?

Dana continues to be associated with the Harris family and the legacy Franco left in Pittsburgh. Her current daily routine, exact residence, and personal activities are not extensively documented. What can be said more confidently is that Franco’s memory remains important within Pittsburgh football history, while their son Dok continues the family connection through his own professional and business interests.

Dana has not become a regular media personality in the years following Franco’s death. Public interest in her today largely comes from people researching Franco’s family, their decades together, and the people closest to him.

Conclusion

Dana Dokmanovich occupies an unusual place in Franco Harris’s story because their relationship began before his greatest football achievements and continued long after his playing days ended. Together they raised Dok, whose path through higher education, law, business, and politics was very different from his father’s NFL career. Questions remain about some parts of Dana’s biography, particularly her exact age and formal marital status with Franco. Still, the established parts of their story show a long family connection that stretched across college years, professional football, retirement, parenthood, and Franco’s enduring place in Pittsburgh history.
